About the brand
Chris Kinman founded Kinman in Australia in 1994 with a specific goal: eliminate the 60-cycle hum from single-coil pickups without altering their tonal character. Kinman's solution differs from conventional stacked coil approaches (which produce a more muted sound): it uses a very low-inductance noise-cancelling coil that doesn't affect the musical signal but cancels the electromagnetic interference field.
The result is pickups that sound identical to the finest vintage single-coils but in complete silence. Eric Clapton has used Kinman pickups in his signature Stratocaster in collaboration with Fender. The AVn-Blues and Woodstock models are the most popular for blues and classic rock players who cannot tolerate hum in high-interference environments.
Kinman's approach is validated by the science: conventional stacked hum-cancelling designs load the pickup with capacitance, rolling off high frequencies. Kinman's low-inductance sensing coil has negligible effect on the signal path.
