About the brand

Eventide was founded in New York in 1971 and spent its first decades producing rack-mounted studio processors used on virtually every major recording of the 1970s and 80s. Their H910 and H949 Harmonizers were the first devices to shift pitch without changing tempo, transforming studio production.

The transition to compact pedals began with the TimeFactor delay, ModFactor modulation, PitchFactor pitch, and Space reverb — the Factor series. Each pedal crammed studio-grade algorithms into a compact format at a price point that, while not cheap, was far below the equivalent rack gear.

The H9 harmonizer consolidated the four Factor pedals into a single unit with every algorithm from all four, updatable via smartphone app. It remains one of the most powerful compact effects processors ever made, used by professionals who demand studio quality on stage.

Key facts

  • H910 Harmonizer (1975): the first digital pitch-shifting device
  • Factor series: studio-grade algorithms in compact pedal format
  • H9: a single pedal containing four pedals' worth of processing
  • Used on major recordings since the 1970s
