About the brand

Warwick was founded in 1982 by Hans-Peter Wilfer in Erlangen, Germany. Wilfer's father Fred had founded Framus in 1946, and when Hans-Peter started Warwick, he inherited both the craftsmanship tradition and the passion for German-made instruments. Warwick focuses exclusively on bass guitars โ€” a rare brand specialisation that has allowed deep expertise in bass construction.

The Corvette, Thumb, and Streamer are Warwick's flagship bass models, each with distinct tonal and ergonomic characteristics. The Thumb in particular โ€” with its compact body and aggressive growl โ€” became one of the most recognisable bass sounds of the 1990s and 2000s. Jack Bruce, Bootsy Collins, and Robert Trujillo of Metallica are among the brand's most prominent artists.

Warwick basses are made in Markneukirchen, Germany at a factory shared with Framus. The brand uses exotic tonewoods including wenge, bubinga, and ovangkol, which contribute to the distinctive Warwick growl. The German-made instruments occupy the premium tier, while the Rockbass sub-brand offers Warwick designs at more accessible prices.
