About the brand
Roland Corporation was founded in 1972 by Ikutaro Kakehashi in Osaka, Japan. Roland is best known for its synthesisers, electronic drum kits and MIDI equipment, but its contribution to the world of guitar is equally significant. The JC-120 Jazz Chorus (1975) is one of the most influential solid-state amplifiers ever built and continues in production today.
The JC-120 Jazz Chorus is famous for its crystalline clarity and built-in stereo chorus effect — the same chorus used by Andy Summers of The Police, Robert Smith of The Cure and dozens of post-punk and new wave artists. The Jazz Chorus's clean tone is considered by many to be the best clean tone of any solid-state amplifier.
Roland also developed the VG-8, one of the first MIDI guitar systems, and the Cube series amplifiers that are a reference in the digital practice segment. The company is the parent of Boss, and together they dominate the compact effects and practice amplifier markets.
