Blackstar Amplification
The British brand founded by ex-Marshall engineers offering high-level valve amplifiers at prices more accessible than boutique competition.
About the brand
Blackstar Amplification was founded in 2004 in Northampton by Ian Robinson, Bruce Keir, Richard Frost and Joel Richardson โ all former Marshall engineers. With decades of experience in valve amplifier design, the founding team wanted to create a new brand that incorporated design innovations they had not been able to implement at Marshall.
Blackstar's patented ISF (Infinite Shape Feature) circuit is one of its most recognised innovations: an equalisation control that allows the user to gradually transition between an American-type and a British-type response, offering exceptional tonal range in a single knob. The Series One and HT Venue are the most acclaimed models in the range.
The artisan line and ID Core digital modelling amplifiers complete an offer covering everything from the practice guitarist to the touring professional. David Bowie chose a Blackstar for his final album Blackstar (2016), giving the brand unprecedented visibility shortly before the artist's death.
